Latest episode of The Football Boardroom - from Gareth Southgate’s new 1071 pod squad - sees Christian Purslow and I analysing almost five years of Newcastle United under Saudi ownership.
Another great episode and another question from myself
Do you believe that PSR/FFP are needed in the modern game?
When they were brought in 15 or so years ago it made sense in that Portsmouth nearly imploded monumentally and there was still the hangover to an extent of the ITV Digital collapse further down the pyramid.
We are now however at a stage whereby Sovereign States are owning football clubs, whether people agree or disagree with that, that is for another day but surely as a result of that and private individuals getting richer, is there a requirement for it in the modern game?
Hi Craig. I do feel some element of PSR needed. We can’t have limitless funds thrown at a team. But new owners should have a proper jumpstart period to invest. Purslow has this great idea of investing in youth with academy players’ wages allowed in PSR evaluation
