When Leeds United suffered their customary promotion-campaign wobble, Daniel Farke stayed calm. When Luton Town fans sang “Leeds, Leeds are falling apart again” at Kenilworth Road on April 5, Farke certainly didn’t fall apart despite one Championship win in six, and falling into the play-off positions. The 48-year-old German stayed strong, rallied the players, and they have risen to top spot. Leeds are going up.
If you need somebody to respond under pressure, well, Farke delivered. He’d already made the tough but vital decision to drop the underperforming Ilian Meslier for 34-year-old reserve Karl Darlow. Luton was the Welshman’s first Championship action of the season. Farke’s decision was vindicated. The defence looked more confident with Darlow behind them. He’s conceded only one goal in four consecutive victories (against Preston).
