Re your last point, I think people underestimate how much VAR is/will change the match going fans enjoyment of the game. Yesterday at the Bridge I did not celebrate our first goal in fear of a late VAR call - and was glad I didn't when it was chalked off and the Geordie's rubbed our noses in it. Football cannot lose the instantaneous reaction to your team scoring. For me any benefits from VAR are outweighed by this huge cost.

that was always going to be the issue with VAR, Chris, the assault on spontaneity and joy. It's here to stay so it's now a case of making it more reliable and quicker. And better communicated. btw at least Chelsea playing better. Palmer on fire.

Henry, love having you on Substack, best move I made was onto this platform, and your work exceeds the payment imo. If you ever fancy a collab on some non-league angles......I'm all ears!

I love reading your insights into the game I love, I followed your newspaper columns religiously, BUT £10 for a few thoughts a week?? I subscribed to Substack to continue but don’t bother with any of their other content, am I reading this service right? Or can I read just your musings elsewhere?

Always a good read on a Monday morning Henry. Excellent points made again. Liked the last point to. That was good to highlight.

That West Ham VAR call for the penalty yesterday was a joke. One of the worst I have seen. Ings through himself into De Ligt. How could the ref and VAR not see this. The explanation was bizarre to. It was not given for a foul by De Ligt. Then what was it for. The fan experience in stadiums for this is a joke.

Totally agree with the offsides. That semi-automated needs bringing in soon.

Palmer is just class. Passing and finishing are both superb. Needs to do this for England now.

Arsenal did great yesterday with all the injuries and changes. Arteta should receive no criticism. It’s a good point.

Good to see the No 9’s are not extinct just yet but there are not a lot of obvious ones around that big clubs could go for like in years honestly by. There is less of them. Such a shame.

it's also because teams tend to play one up, 4-2-3-1 etc, that academies focus on other types of attackers. regards, Henry

Well done with your vote. Spot on. Delighted for Rodri. Dies it fur join and country. Real Madrid a disgrace. That was a lack of class.

Man Utd situation very interesting. Into the unknown if they go for Amorim nut seems to have something about him. Highly rated.

Ten Hag should have gone in summer. Not kept and let to spend £200m. 14th in league says it all.

Have a good day.
