Everton must take the raw emotion with them when they move home.

Goodison Park is special. Bramley-Moore Dock is so different but promises much.

A flying, book-related visit to Merseyside on Monday and Tuesday afforded the chance to drive past Everton’s homes, present and future. Both Goodison Park and Bramley-Moore Dock were bathed in sunshine, making them even more photogenic: one glistened with history, the other gleamed with steel, glass and high-tech hope.

Outside Goodison, six or seven kids enjoyed a kickabout by the Church of St Luke the Evangelist between the Gwladys Street End and Goodison Road stands. They were interrupted only by a cyclist weaving between them. As I took a picture of Goodison, a man pushing a pram down Gwladys Street remarked “the better one is across Stanley Park”. 1,000 yards away. Red-Blue rivalry is never far away.
