Hi, thanks for arriving here! What can I offer?! Football, football and more football. Monday will be a free post, reflecting the weekend issues. Tuesday to Friday inclusive, the newsletter is a paid subscription. In it, I’ll be analysing and debating all things football, the good and the bad, the elite end right down through the pyramid. There will be news stories and occasional interviews. Already have a Euro interview in the bag.
I hope this newsletter provides a balanced view of the game. No clickbait. I’ll be drawing on almost 40 years’ writing about the game, even longer in love with it. I’ve attended nine World Cups, seven Euros, countless Premier League, Champions League, Europa League and EFL games, occasionally catching my local non-League side, Stamford AFC. I’ve written books with the likes Sir Kenny Dalglish, Michael Carrick and Steven Gerrard. I’ve written a book on England, and have two more in the pipeline.
I played non-League badly, and captained the England media side until losing the dressing room pretty quickly. I’m the current Sports Journalists Association and Football Supporters Association Writer of the Year. I hope you enjoy the newsletters, and please inform me when you don’t. It’s a new adventure for me, so all guidance appreciated! Thanks for reading. Henry.
May I ask a perhaps stupid question? Do you still get press tickets for games or have to buy them? Thanks.
Best of luck, Henry. As a Times man dabbling in Substack myself I can vouch for its attractions.
