A great summary of VAR’s intervention to deny Southampton a hard earned goal, well put Henry. Great to see some unsung heroes shining at Bournemouth and Brentford under excellent coaches too.
Usual quality Monday points Henry. Plenty of varied points made from across this mostly wonderful game. Newcastle have let Howe down badly this summer. No criticism should aimed at his management. Don’t understand some of the criticism he is getting.
Seems that way. Would have been a good signing. Should have just spent the money on him instead of messing Palace about. Badly need a striker and right winger or number 10. Mitchell has a lot to do.
Not sure if you recall Henry, when United got Ten Hag, some prominent Dutch football journalists suggested they should have gone for Slot, they suggested he was vastly superior. Incredible what he has achieved in such a short space of time.
In terms of Eddie Howe, the negativity seems to coincide with Mitchell’s appointment. Am hoping politics doesn’t cost a young promising British coach his job.
really good point, Paul. With ETH there was always some scepticism amongst Dutch journos which he put down to coming from the provinces, not Amsterdam. Slot's impact is incredible. Staff love him. On Newcastle, I guess Mitchell needs some time. But you're right, would be crazy if politics cost Howe. Staveley missed.
I do understand the need with the complexity of a modern football club, for that greater strategic oversight - ‘sporting dept’ or ‘football operations,’ it just puzzles me on how visible these parts of a club want to be. If I think of someone who has done the role very well, Edu, but keeps a very low media profile.

Have a good week.
they seemed to focus exclusively on Guehi and it took too long, then they didn't get him, and their recruitment was up the spout.
