Ten things learned from tuning in to Leicester City 1 Tottenham Hotspur 1.

1.Vardy’s party still going. Bumping into Jamie Vardy in Leicester last season, I remarked that I was looking forward to his farewell tour of Premier League grounds. He was being tipped for retirement at the time but clearly wanted a final tilt at elite defences. Now, at 37, promoted back to the Premier League and given a year’s contract extension, Vardy embodied the strengths of Leicester’s emblem against Spurs. Foxes never quit. And they’re very cunning. Vardy’s movement remains so clever, and played the poacher to equalise. 137 goals in 308 Premier League games. At £1m, there have not been many more cost-effective signings in Premier League history.

2.Romero, Romero, wherefore art thou? One moment, one lapse of concentration and Vardy eluded Romero. Typical Vardy but also typical Tottenham. Their defence should be more effective given the quality of players: Destiny Udogie, Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Pedro Porro but they have this damaging habit of switching off. It looks like more work is still required on the training ground building up that understanding and organisation.

3.Chat sh*t, get harangued. Vardy made a pithy point to Spurs fans having a go at his wife. He pointed to the Premier League badge on his shirt-sleeve, then held up a finger to signal the one Premier League title Leicester have won and then the zero managed by Spurs. It was funny, underlined Vardy’s enduring competitive nature, and if fans dish it out, he believes they should take it back.
