Chatting to a friend in the gym on Saturday morning, I had to smile when he reflected on his father’s career building factories and then winning the contract to demolish them a couple of decades later.
Quality points raised on a Monday as usual Henry. So many areas covered. Good to read. Well said about Trent. Had a nightmare of a game and is not a good defender one on one but he has had a very good season and his benefits far outweighs the positives in his game. People really do like to pile in on him at times. I mean Real Madrid are after him and Liverpool want to keep him after all. Not a bad choice. Certain people just like to knock some players. Dalot hasn’t gotten enough credit for his performance. Although I must say Bradley is not far behind him and a great replacement.
I really like Delap. Love his attitude. An old school forward who just goes out there and gives hi all in a more physical way. Been superb in last two games. Chelsea despite having a poor defence anyway couldn’t handle him last week. Seems a tough lad to. Would be an ideal back up for Man City but he needs to play now and not be on the bench. Hope he can keep it up and and England call won’t be far away. Would be great in a front two to by the way. I miss the striker combos.
Totally agree on the holding and time wasting now. It’s getting a joke. Also how easily players go down now to is pathetic.
Savinho has big promise and good to see him do,aging wide left. Conventional winger putting in crosses for Haaland. Needs service. Grealish hasn’t gotten enough to have a look at himself. £100m and no goals or assists for over a year. Now that deserves criticism.
good point about Delap in a two, John. Frustrating that few play them nowadays. Different position but he'll miss the contributions of Omari Hutchinson injured. Agree on Grealish; I really like Jack, get on with him, but he needs to raise his game more. I quite like him in the No 10 role. regards H
I'm probably missing something here, but why is ticket revenue included in PSR/FFP? If each club were given something like a notional £50 per seat per game on top of existing financial loss allowance then it would give them leeway to reduce ticket price, or at least remove financial compliance as a justification for eye watering ticket prices.
that's quite an idea, Peter. Send that to the Premier League. I've spoken to fans' organisations and suggested, only partly in jest, that they bill clubs for providing atmosphere which TV pays clubs for
The timewasting and feigning injury is getting worse week on week, especially in the National League, not to mention the keeper holding onto the ball for going on 20 seconds now or delaying a goal kick beyond 10 seconds, really needs looking at.
Grappling, holding, shirt pulling, another area officials just don't police it. Make it 9v9 if you have to, the managers and players then learn and it stops, but they just choose not to get involved.
it's being accused of inconsistency that refs worry about. there will be fans with stopwatches next checking on the opposition time-wasting and demanding action from refs for every delay. Nwaneri getting booked taking a corner before half-time must be a first
They all count out loud in the National League 😂 Classic on NYD, Eastleigh keeper gets booked on about 57 mins for time wasting, quite early, then proceeds to take exactly the same time on every kick, ref doesn't act on it! Could argue they're all inconsistent from one game to next....gives us talking points tho 😊
You might prove me wrong Henry but I’m not sure who if anyone depicted Trent as ‘some hapless ingenu who shouldn’t be allowed near elite football’ but applying criticism is a personal thing, and you shouldn’t expect anything less from Keane. He I suspect like many others including myself have a different opinion of TAA and I was shocked to learn he had been voted Dec man of the month. He can’t make his mind up and neither have successive managers, whether he’s a right back or a right midfielder, I suggest he’s neither. He’s an outlier in the modern Premiership game and will be a better fit for RM who can, and frequently do accomodate a lazy player with a modicum of skill. One thing is for sure after yesterday’s performance he won’t be bought on the basis of his defending ability.
it's frustrating as he was defending better at the start of the season and then switched off, Macca. He's only been nominated for player of the month, I imagine Salah will win followed by Isak. The take on the criticism was just a broad collection of the stick he's been getting. As you say, Real would be ideal for him, given they'll want him for his passing.
I feel the criticism of players generally has now gone too far. I like Keane, but off the back of one performance, suggesting Trent to Tranmere a more appropriate move was daft. Appreciate Keane’s acerbic wit, but I think occasionally the anchor should challenge some of his takes such as this one.
Trent has been exceptional for Liverpool. If he moves on, yes it would be a significant loss for the club, but he has contributed so much that should be celebrated.
Liverpool have been such a well run club now for many years, (envy from a MUFC fan,) I’m surprised they allowed themselves to get into the contract predicament with Trent, van Dijk, and Salah.
While a historic rival, I would prefer these three players remain in the Premier League at Liverpool. I believe the league would be inferior without them.
totally agree, Paul, but can see the attraction of Real to Trent. It is bizarre that the club let this situation develop with all three, although Trent may simply be waiting for the summer. I imagine Virgil will sign, and then Salah. Certainly hope so.
Oddly I suspect Trent’s game would be valued more in Madrid than in England. If I think of many of the homegrown players who stayed and played in the Premier League, they always seemed to be overlooked for their foreign counterparts by fans and even their clubs.
good idea, Christian, but tricky to enforce with players going in and out, even being dragged in. It's a mess and I'm not sure the solution beyond mass bookings. Regards, Henry

A Happy New Year to you, Henry.

As a suggestion it lacks economic sophistication, Henry, but the fan clubs need to come up with proposals if they want change, in my opinion.
agreed, they are also hoping the Regulator will be their ally

totally agree. that's funny on Eastleigh

they'll love him there when he starts pinging 60-yarders to Mbappe
How about limiting the number of players to 4 defenders and 4 attackers in the 6 yard box at corners?
