World Cup means World Soccer
I grew up reading the great Brian Glanville in the Sunday Times and in World Soccer. He was always the most welcoming of football reporters in press boxes, especially if you showed an interest in Italian football and were prepared to turn out for his team, the Chelsea Casuals. Legendary writer, lovely man, opinionated full-back.
So it was a great honour, and slightly daunting, when I inherited Brian’s column in World Soccer after he passed away. World Soccer is a staple of the game, and its exhaustive guide to the 2026 World Cup is out on May 15. I’ve written the England section and will be heading out on June 1 to cover their latest attempt to - check maths and calendar - end 60 years of hurt.
